FAQs

Some images shown in the webinar seemed to have very strong and directional lighting. Is the lighting customisable?

Yes, the lighting is customised for each client according to their creative direction. Typically, our clients provide us with a brief for the style they are looking for prior to the shoot. We will then run tests for approval before the shoot. Once the client is happy, we create a specification and save the settings.

There are some limitations to the type of lighting we can produce naturally inside the ORBs, so for more creative lighting, we use a combination of real-world lighting and editing to create the desired effect.

What are the major elements of the technology that allow for high daily capture rates, that in turn decrease the price per image?

By combining automation, synchronized hardware, intelligent software, and scalable studio practices, ORB can shoot and process large volumes of high-quality images daily. This operational efficiency directly translates into lower cost per image for our clients—without compromising on creativity or quality.

1. Automated Turntable Systems

  • Our 360˚ photography setup uses motorized turntables that rotate garments or mannequins in precise increments (e.g., 5° for 72 images per spin).

  • This automation drastically reduces manual handling and allows consistent, repeatable captures for each product.

2. Synchronized Multi-Camera and Lighting Setup

  • We employ synchronized camera rigs paired with consistent, high-CRI lighting to ensure uniform image quality at each angle without needing repositioning.

  • This setup eliminates downtime between shots and reduces the need for retakes, enabling fast, high-volume shooting.

3. Batch Capture & Triggering Software

  • Our software controls camera triggering, rotation timing, and capture intervals in real-time.

  • It allows automated batch capture of 72 images in a single rotation cycle—often under one minute—dramatically increasing throughput.

4. On-the-Fly Cropping & Frame Alignment

  • The system auto-aligns frames and crops during or immediately after capture, minimizing manual post-processing.

  • This saves hours in editing, letting us process more sets per day.

5. Workflow Integration & Asset Management

  • ORB uses integrated DAM (Digital Asset Management) systems and custom scripts to instantly sort, tag, and queue image sets for editing or export.

  • Reducing organizational overhead speeds up delivery and keeps costs low.

6. Scalable Studio Infrastructure

  • We’ve optimized our studio for parallel shoots—multiple setups can run simultaneously with shared lighting and backdrops.

  • This scale helps us maintain high daily output even as demand grows.

7. Efficient Post-Processing Pipelines

  • Using AI-assisted retouching, bulk cropping, and automated background removal, we reduce time spent on manual edits.

  • This automation enables same-day turnaround while maintaining high visual standards.

If I want to retouch images once they are in the ORB360 DAM, what is the turnaround time?

For background changing, rescaling and simple retouching, such as wrinkle or stain or blemish removal, the turnaround time is typically 24 hours.

For more complicated retouching tasks such as ghosting, colour changing/matching, garment length or size adjustment, the turnaround time is normally 48 hours.

If a quicker turnaround time is required, we also offer on-site retouching. With this service, the images are available the same day as the shoot.

Can ORB360 be integrated with other services?

ORB360˚ imagery is the only 360˚ view photography solution that can be integrated with JOOR.  It is also compatible with Shopify, Squarespace and other e-commerce platforms.

We understand that the ORB produces both 2D and 360˚ view imagery. What are the pros and cons of each?

If we wanted to produce 1,000 separate images in two days, that was a combination of on model looks and accessories, how many mobile units are needed?

The exact number of images we can shoot per day does vary from client to client, depending on the type of products and the amount of styling required, but generally we are able to achieve the following number per day per machine.

  • Number of packshots per day: Ready-to-wear 140+, Accessories 70+

  • Number of Ghosts per day: 65+

  • Number of Videos per day: Ready-to-wear 70+, Accessories 50+

  • Number of 360s per day: 75+

Over an 8-hour day, to shoot roughly 1000+ images with a mixture of ready-to-wear and accessories over two days, we would initially recommend 4-5 machines.

Examples from real shoots:

  1. 900+ Ready-to-wear Images over two days with 3 machines

  2. 650+ Ready-to-wear videos over two days with 2 machines

  3. 125+ Videos of accessories over two days with 1 machine

What customisable options are available for different backgrounds

We can shoot with all colours and different backgrounds using professional colorama paper in the ORB. If the background requirements are digital or 3D we can manage a post-production technology solution.

How many 360’s can be shot each day?

The ORB has the ability to shoot up to 75 x 360° or 50 x videos for an 8-hour day, each unit. Large-scale numbers are easily met by adding additional ORB units to make up the numbers.

What Is Offered Beyond 360 Imagery?

ORB360 is a full-service offering for B2B and e-commerce 360 solutions; everything from 360 photography, 360 video, 2D imagery, flat lay ghost imagery and different backgrounds is readily achievable. The service also features advanced video edits, digital garment alterations and 3D creative options to create an even richer viewer experience.

What are the space requirements?

The mobile units allow for shoots in any location; designers' studio, behind the scenes, catwalk shows, etc. The small space requirements are 2.5m width x 2.5m height.

What about retouching?

Due to the ORB’s intelligent lighting technology, retouching is not always required on images and video however, when needed, we have a retouching team on board. All image processing is done on-site and we meet the most discerning luxury brand image guidelines.

What is the turnaround time?

360 files are uploaded to The ORDRE Groups cloud-based DAM (Digital Asset Management) the same day as shooting. This allows distribution to be seamless and immediate.

How is content served?

Images & videos are available to download in interactive 360° animation, JPEG x 72, MP4, GIF and interactive canvas. Each 360 spin consists of 72 individual images that can be manipulated by cropping, zooming or other creative means.

Where do the shoots take place?

The ORB360 solution is fully mobile. The team brings all the equipment and a photographer operator to your studio, office or backstage of a show. As long as there is enough space for the ORB360 machine, as well as power and internet - we can shoot anywhere.

How long does it take to capture each ORB360?

To capture a complete 360˚ image, the ORB360 machine takes around 20 seconds only

What do I need to do in preparation for the shoot?

The customer needs to decide if they are shooting at the ORB’s offices or providing a premise. The list of items to be shot should be submitted 48 hours before the shoot. On the shoot day, they need to provide all garments/products for shooting, a brand representative to sign off on the styling of each look, a model and hair and make-up (if required).

Is it possible to shoot with different backgrounds?

Yes, we can shoot with different backgrounds using professional colourama paper in the ORB. If the background requirements are digital or 3D we can manage a post-production solution.

Where Are The Assets Uploaded

The assets are immediately uploaded to the client's own locked folder on the DAM (Digital Asset Management). Accessing the DAM is as easy as logging onto a website.

How Do I Load The Imagery On My E-Commerce Website?

Log in to your personal folder on the DAM (Digital Asset Management) and you may either select the download product and embed its code or perform a mass export and upload to the website.

Does Orb360 Integrate With Any Platforms?
