DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: ANNA SUI

ORB360 Designer spotlight: Anna Sui

“Clothes have to be fun; otherwise, who wants to bother?” a quote that represents the attitude behind the collections of New York-based designer, Anna Sui. Starting her ready-to-wear label in 1981, Sui worked out of her New York apartment for about a decade before reaching stardom in the fashion world. Her aspirations to become a fashion designer began when she was just a kid in Michigan. In 1973, Sui moved to New York to pursue her passion at Parsons School of Design.

With each runway show, Anna Sui takes her audience on a journey through glorious surreal worlds. Anna’s clothes are always fun, fantastical, and gothic and this NYFW fashion week is no exception. Her collection Paradise in Indoctrine, inspired by her travels and favorite tiki haunt; Sui’s tropical paradise show was a tropical island paradise. Presented in a procession of shades of neon pink and green, her clothing incorporates an aspect of whimsy and youthful angst. Models wearing crochet bathing suits on top of neon spandex scuba shirts, with fluorescent gingham socks and tan sandals with fluorescent soles walk down the runway with zeal. Other models wearing an array of shirts, dresses, and skirts in tropical prints with birds of paradise and hibiscuses graze the catwalk giving off unapologetic energy.

Anna Sui in conjunction with ORB360° has been working together for the past 5 seasons shooting for their e-commerce and B2B sites. During the pandemic, ORB360° was crucial for many designers who were not able to meet buyers face to face. Anna is quoted as saying, “We don’t get people coming to the showroom during this epidemic, and this is a great way to show a lot more people the clothing and this is a great way to show what the collection is about and tell our story.”

Shooting is completed in the designer’s home base along with the ORB360° New York branch studio. Anna Sui uses a plethora of editorial models such as Jazzelle Zanaughtti (@uglyworldwide) and Chloe Tang (@clotang) who alongside other Anna Sui Models use creative posing and movement in the ORB to add dynamism. These unique poses add to the whimsical nature of Anna’s aesthetic and are a playful addition to Anna Sui’s social media, e-commerce, and B2B channels.

Anna Sui is a master of utilizing ORB360° for e-commerce and social media channels. The brand is one of the greatest examples of how an entire product page can be built out from a single spin. Anna Sui ensures that her content stream is diverse on social and e-commerce sites by including front, back, side, and close-up images pulled from the ORB. Some imagery from Anna’s social and e-commerce channels uses ORB Remove to create colorful flowery background animations and other other-worldly looks to complement the models.

ORB360° is an innovative content-capturing tool modernizing the way B2B and B2C luxury brands are showcasing their products online. The revolutionary ORB360°  tool captures products and models in real time by taking 72 photos on a rotating pedestal with our perfected lighting technology. Our software takes all 72 images and creates a video showcasing every part of the look. These 360s allow buyers to zoom in and out of the garment to get further clarity on the materials of the clothing on the models. These images can each be selected for individual use on e-commerce sites as well.
